Parental Alienation

Parental alienation occurs when one parent takes steps or actions that are designed to alienate a child from the other parent. Some of these include omitting the other parent’s name on school registration forms or doctor’s office records, deliberately registering the child under a different name, continuously making disparaging remarks about the other parent to the child or in the presence of the child, and causing conflict at all the child exchanges. Such behaviors, particularly when compounded, have the effect of making the child uncomfortable with the alienated parent or uncomfortable with displaying affection to the alienated parent in front of the alienating parent. In certain cases, this is called Parental Alienation Syndrome. Sometimes, when the alienation is extreme, a Court will transfer custody to the alienated parent. At Mercedes R. Wechsler, P.A., we are familiar with all forms of parental alienation. We can help you demonstrate to the Court the types and levels of parental alienation and how that has affected your relationship with your child or children. We will aggressively pursue your right to have a strong loving relationship with your children and assist you in defending against all kinds of parental alienation, no matter how minor or extreme.
