For the first time in history, the average American is now more likely to live in a state that recognizes same-sex marriage, than one that does not.  this is according to the WashingtonPost.com as reported in the August 1, 2014 issue of The Week.  Most recently, the issue of whether a same sex marriage sanctioned in another state can be dissolved in Florida in light of Florida’s ban on same-sex marriage was certified by the Second District Court of Appeals to the Florida Supreme Court as a question of great public importance.

For now, same sex couples in Florida can protect their individual rights and set out their individual obligation through domestic partnership agreements.  These agreements set out the couple’s financial obligations, property rights, and child-related issues.
